LESSON 2: Are you a risk taker? (1 of 7)

What is risk?

The word risk can mean different things to different people. Often we equate risk with danger, fear, or bad luck. Risk can certainly be an expression of these ideas, but it is important to remember that risk is really just a way to measure a potential for loss, nothing more. We face risk every day in nearly everything that we do.

Whenever we get in a car and drive somewhere we incur the risk of being involved in an accident, when we compete in sports we face the risk of losing, and anytime we try something new or difficult we always run the risk of failure.

What many people don’t realize is that risk is what makes life interesting, exciting, and challenging. Sure nobody wants to lose, get hurt, or suffer any tragic loss, but imagine for a moment how boring life would be if we never took any risks and never had to worry about failing or losing something. Life wouldn’t hold any surprises if every endeavor was a sure thing. Kind of dull, don’t you think?
